I guess it must be somewhat hard for most of us to guess at what a real mother and father should be like. Some of us had good mothers and fathers, and some of us had not so good mothers and fathers. Now that most of us have become mothers and fathers ourselves, we try to do a much better job than did our parents. However, we now see that being a parent is not an easy job at all. That doing too much for our children can sometimes be just about as bad as not doing enough.

In my case, parenting was very difficult. I was raised in an orphanage and had no idea what parenting was all about or what was involved, so I did the next best thing. I just guessed at it. Now that my children are all grown up and have families of their own, I decided to take a moment to look back in the past.

I sat here wondering about what kind of a job I had done as a parent. Oh! There are a few things that I regret and a few things, which I wish I had done differently. That was a really hard question for me to answer. I turned off my computer and walked into the bedroom. I turned on the TV and the first thing I heard was someone saying:

"Look at Adam and Eve. They had the best father that ever was and look at what they did."

I smiled as I lay back on the bed. It was really good to know in my heart that no parent, mother or father, is ever 100 per cent perfect.
